hóPlay is an event that has been organised by AlhóndigaBilbao since its first edition in 2010. In its fifth edition in 2014, hóPLAY yet again puts the spotlight on creativity as one of the main elements of the video game industry. The question of combining art and technology is one of the key lynchpins in the AlhóndigaBilbao cultural agenda.

AlhóndigaBilbao houses one of the city’s most representative buildings, a cultural and leisure space with a varied offering for everyone visiting it. A meeting point to share, learn and enjoy different cultural, leisure and sporting proposals, individually, in groups or as a family, which are suitable for all publics.

The 43,000 sq m of AlhóndigaBilbao are located in the city’s former wine warehouse. A building with a modernist air, declared an “Asset of Cultural Interest” by the Basque Government in 1999, where past, present and future all merge into one. The façades and part of the space designed by the Bilbao architect Ricardo Bastida at the beginning of the 20th century have been retained and refurbished. The outside classic style contrasts with the interior urban space, designed in a singular, innovative and sober way by Philippe Starck, which crystallises the life and energy of the city of Bilbao.
